  • Steve Chavez is a west Denver native. He is also a civil rights attorney with an interest in healthcare disparities. He has served on many non-profit boards.

Harvey Bograd, MD

Pediatrician (Retired)

  • Dr. Harvey Bograd is a pediatrician with Kaiser Permanente. He is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Bograd has held a number of leadership roles with The Colorado Permanente Medical Group including The Board of Directors, Co-Director of Diversity, Physician Lead for Community Benefit and Chief of the Skyline Office Pediatric Department. Dr. Bograd speaks Spanish and is a Denver native.

John Bauer-Martinez, CPA

Board Member

CPA (Retired)

  • John Bauer-Martinez was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans. He is a retired CPA who spent his career in federal and international taxation. His career began with the Internal Revenue Service. After leaving the Internal Revenue Service, he joined Ernst & Young LLP for almost 20 years in the New Orleans, Tucson, Salt Lake City and Denver offices. He left Ernst and Young as a tax partner and joined CH2M Hill Companies, Ltd as their VP of Tax for almost 15 years and retired in Sept 2016. He has been in Denver for almost 25 years. He enjoys golf, long hikes (Camino de Santiago), snowboarding and college football. He is married and has 3 kids and is a devout Christian.

Sonia Peña

  • Sonia Peña is a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoys spending time with her family. Member of the board of directors since 2024, Sonia is thankful for Tepeyac and cares deeply about the community, She has been a patient of the clinic since 2009.

Samit Shah, PhD

Board Member

Dean, Regis University School of Pharmacy

  • Dr. Samit Shah serves as the Dean of the Regis University School of Pharmacy. Prior to this position, he served as the Sidney J. Weinberg Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the KGI School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (KGI SPHS) in Claremont, CA. Dr. Shah also served as the Assistant Dean and Department Chair of Biopharmaceutical Sciences at KGI SPHS.

    Dr. Shah earned a BS in pharmacy from North Gujarat University, a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), and an MBA from South University. He received post-doctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Shah is a licensed pharmacist and has previously worked as a PRN pharmacist and pharmacist-in-charge at Rite Aid Pharmacy and HealthQwest Clinic, respectively.

Our History

In 1994, Tepeyac began in a home on Kalamath Street. The community support which rallied around us more than 25 years ago is still what keeps us going today.
